This photo is of the newly remodeled Puget Consumers' Co-op in the Fremont District of Seattle. We are proud to have designed and sold this project. The consumers' co-op sells thousands of healthy food products to the Puget Sound region. This particular system is a batteryless system that feeds a 208 Volt 3 phase system. It is maintenance free, although the glass on the panels need occasional cleaning due to seagulls :-) The Photovoltaic panels feed inverters which in turn feed the building's utility power. This system is a net metered system, whereby credit is calculated by the utility power meter according to the energy produced.

Above is a 1.8 kW sun tracking (electric motor driven WattSun tracker, AZ300) equipped with twelve Shell/Siemens 150 Watt photovoltaic panels. The tracker follows the sun on both the azimuth and elevation ax'es during the day to maximize energy production. Ellensburg gets a lot of wind too (A LOT!). We had difficulty finding a period calm enough to erect the turbine. The system is equipped with a grid-tie Xantrex/Trace 5 kW inverter which will provide a lot of energy credit from the local electric utility. The owners (as well as any utility connected Washington/Oregon resident) can also sign an agreement with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation if they desire, for an extra 10 cents per kW hour. Ellensburg residents have an energy gold mine in their back yards........ Off-grid systems here can give owners total independence if they desire. This system is capable of providing 200% plus of the residents' power due to exceptional wind resources! In many places it is possible to furnish all of your electrical energy and even heat, if energy conservation practices are implemented and properly sized systems are installed. You may need a backup generator or heater for power during times of limited wind or solar power.

CHECK OUR PAGES ON THE AEROMAG! THE AEROMAG IS AN OUTSTANDING PERFORMER WITH AN OUTSTANDING PRICE!  Units can be easily installed using high-strength slim-line towers or alongside an outbuilding on a tall but STURDY pipe (in some instances).

YOUR SUSTAINABLE ENERGY PRODUCT AND EDUCATION SITE.  WE DESIGN AND SELL CUSTOM SYSTEMS. WE SELL PRE-ENGINEERED AND PRE-ASSEMBLED SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS, KITS AND INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS. WE PROVIDE CONSULTATION, INSTRUCTION AND SERVICE TO LOCAL OR DISTANT LOCATIONS. WE PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO CONTRACTORS AND ELECTRICIANS AS WELL AS OWNER INSTALLERS.

Follow the solar links to sites for more information on sustainable energy. You can educate yourself "on-line" about renewable energy, energy independence and global warming issues.

Sun/Wind believes in choices. You have the choice for telephone carriers and internet service providers........... Should you not have a choice for energy providers --including installing your own renewable energy system? Sun/Wind provides options today! You can "Be Your Own Power Company" if you so desire, by producing a portion or all of your own renewable energy. You may also cooperate with neighbors and install a neighborhood energy system. Or, you may decide all you need is a back-up power system for use when the utility fails. You may wish to "receive credit" from the power company for energy you produce to reduce or eliminate your electric bill. Sun/Wind Concepts provides a solution to pollution while helping you to regain your energy independence and control over your electric bill! States with net metering laws allow you to receive credit for power produced up to the amount of your bill. Some states provide additional incentives.

In a day and age when global warming and storms may cause utility instability and when ever-increasing populations are placing increasing loads on utilities; when local and world-wide politics and events create energy insecurity, when we feel vulnerable to unpredictable costs from energy providers and foreign oil, it makes a great deal of sense to have your own power system. The money you  can save on utilities can contribute to the cost of installing your energy system.  And, from an environmental perspective, every time a wind generator or solar panel is installed, our reliance on fossil fuels is reduced. Over a period of time (along with voluntary birth control :-) this could significantly reduce fossil fuel emissions and reduce global warming. Those implementing such systems set an example of environmental stewardship and of caring about our planet and the quality of life for future generations. Additionally, having your own battery back-up solar system is worth considering, since it can function as a totally independent energy system. It may also be a worthwhile goal for the U.S. to supply all its own energy needs.

Interesting points on the 5" X 43 feet Schedule 40 steel tower and gin pole: The gin pole is erected first after cables are connected, then a four wheel drive vehicle pulls a high strength climbing rope (rated at 8,000 lbs) connected to the top of the gin pole. The gin pole and the tower are at a right angle to each other. When the gin pole is pulled down through an anchor eye and pulley, the tower goes UP! Many wind generators use this type of tower system, but Aeromag uses a very special high quality tower that uses much smaller pipe (1 1/2" -3"). If the tower is properly supported with high quality aircraft cable it is not necessary to use such heavy pipe. And, cable supported towers are not always required. Many our our wind generators have much smaller self supporting towers. In fact, many of our wind generators do not require towers and can be mounted alongside an outbuilding on a 3" pipe that is set only into a hole in the ground. A brace/truss is fastened to the building peak and the pipe is anchored securely to it. The key to successful installation is getting the wind generator high in the air, well above turbulance that can be caused by buildings and other objects. A wind generator should be mounted a minimum of 20 feet above surrounding objects (30 feet is recommended). The prevailing wind direction and the direction of roof slope also has a lot to do with employing this method. We can help you find a method that most suits your needs and location.

ALIEN CONTACT MY __ __ __!  :-)

sowheresthemothership.jpg

We held a photovoltaics and wind energy workshop during the installation. In spite of all the help, we did not complete the system in ONE DAY. It took a number of days preparation by the contractor and a number of days by the electrician and myself. But everyone learned a lot! If you compare this system to the one that powers my offices, you will note a large difference in size, features and costs. My office systems utilize only two 100 Watt panels and a 1,000 Watt windgenerator! So don't believe that you MUST install a large system. They are very nice, but if one really understands and implements effective energy conservation practices, a smaller system can provide at portion or all of your energy. Several small wind machines can equal the output of one larger one, and are in total about half the cost. See our systems pages for prices.

CLIMATE SOLUTIONS SITE

NEW SYSTEMS FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM

There is a lot of detail and reading at this site and we also print and mail out a lot of additional information! We don't mean to inundate you so we try to summarize where possible. We want our customers to have real expectations -- not a "pie in the sky" conception often presented by some (with deliberately inadequate information). We want you to be a happy customer... So that is why we try to furnish you with all the information you need before you purchase or set out on a path that may prove inadequate or unfruitful.

Reduce your electric bill...  These systems can lower your bill, hedge against future power increases, and even provide back-up power for emergencies or disasters. It is possible to turn off the utility and be your own power company if you are willing to work hard on an energy reduction plan. The system above is a relatively deluxe one, however, many have achieved independence with much smaller systems.

If you don't see a system here that meets your needs, or for additional information on these systems, write us or call us. We will be happy to discuss your needs and offer insights that may offer solutions for your energy needs:

1) GRID TIE -- Reduce electric bill by receiving credit from the power company. These come in batteryless or battery (with back-up power) versions. Please specify whether you are interested in solar only, wind only, or hybrid. Please specify whether you are interested in a battery-less (no back-up power available) or battery system (back-up power system) or if you want information on both.

2) INDEPENDENT -- These systems utilize batteries for energy storage and can be designed as solar only, wind only, or hybrid. Please specify which systems you would like more information on.

EITHER TYPE CAN BE A PRE-ENGINEERED, PRE-PACKAGED SYSTEM: We now have many sizes of POWER SHEDS available. These can be your garden tool shed, shop or other outbuilding. We provide a kit that is pre-wired with easily assembled building panels, with little wiring required. You will need an electrician to do the hook-up unless you are electrically skilled. These systems can be ordered in many configurations and can include PV panels on the roof, a wind generator mounted on the building corner, a power inverter, and batteries (if an independent or back-up power system -- these can also be utility-tied) or batteryless utility-tie system. Many sizes, many prices. We can assemble and deliver in WA, Oregon and other areas, if you prefer to order it that way. Write or call for information. Systems can be ordered with or without a shed or building, and can be added to your own shed or outbuilding if desired. They can also be installed in and or garages or carports. NEC approved systems are available.

THE AMAZING SUNDA HOT WATER AND HEATING COLLECTORS

SUNDA -- made in China.  These fine products are a result of collaborative efforts between Sunda Beijing and Daimler Benz Aerospace of Gemany. These systems are very popular in China, Germany and other parts of Europe, Tibet and other countries. As a result of their partnership, an evacuated tube collector was developed that has the capability of boiling water without an optical concentrator. These vacuum tubes have a special aluminum nitride collector and very advanced fluid circuit configurations that can deliver up to a 94% efficiency. The vacuum tubes prevent heat loss by conduction to the outside air. SUNDA's glycol fluid roof-top and ground mount collectors are equipped with a heat exchanger to prevent water freezup. Individual tubes for these systems can be removed or replaced (if ever damaged by flying rocks etc.) without turning the system off and without any leakage. Fluids do not flow between the manifold and individual collector tubes! Simply UNPLUG and insert a new one... We can supply 'connect and go' hot water systems and we can design roof mount or ground mount systems that are capable of producing large amounts of hot water or space heat..... ALL FROM THE ENERGY OF THE SUN!

A solar workshop held on Whidbey Island, a 2100 Watt Sun/Wind project designed to drastically cut the owners' electric utility cost. The system was designed and provided by Sun/Wind Concepts. Sun/Wind Concepts works with many building designers, architects, builders and contractors as well as individual home owners.

This Sun/Wind system, as well as the Bellingham system and many others Sun/Wind has designed are utility grid interactive. They offset the owner's utility bill by feeding the home with converted solar power AND by feeding power back to the utility when home use is low. Most states now have net metering which allows a yearly tabulation of energy used offset by energy produced, up to the full amount of the utility bill.

09-04gp2008.jpg

This Langley, Whidbey Island home was designed by Architect Deb Asplund. Winter-Sun Design planned supplemental passive solar heating design components and sponsored the solar workshop. Sun/Wind Concepts was designated to design and sell the batteryless grid-tie solar system. The home is very energy efficient, employing a high degree of insulation and high efficiency appliances and lighting. Currently the owners receive about 75% of their electric power from solar, and there are no batteries to maintain.

It is possible to roof mount or yard mount the photoelectric panels. In this case, mounting the PV panels on 'pole mount' racks was chosen because trees cast shade upon and obscure the solar radiation to the roof. Pole mounts can provide a means to place the panels in the sunniest area of the propery. Trackers can be optionally employed to increase efficiency, if desired. Another advantage of pole mounts prevents having to drill mounting holes in the roof. PV panels can also be mounted on patio roofs, on carport roofs or on garden sheds. However, in many situations home roof mounting is selected to conserve yard space, or because there is more solar radiation present, or for architectural reasons. The Bellingham example on the front page is built low to the ground to preserve the southern view from the home and to maximize solar exposure. Care should be given to be sure that lawns do not have rocks that can be thrown by lawnmowers. Panels are rated for 1" hail however, and have even been employed as roofs by themselves with proper mounting and sealing. They are generally rated for a 50 pound per square foot snow or wind load.

How To Order

GOOD NEWS! Due to recent Washington State legislation, solar and wind energy systems rated over 200 Watts, are sales tax exempt.. In addition, if you plan on installing a renewable energy system at your business location, Up to 20% IRS tax credit is available including an accelerated depreciation credit (Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System -- MACRS -- talk to your tax consultant).

Sun/Wind Concepts provides installation or instruction and assistance to owner installers and contractors via email, fax, phone and by on-site consultation.

1) We accept personal checks or credit card checks (some clearance time may be required), money orders or certified checks. (One should consider the very good interest rates currently available if financing is needed. Current refinance mortgage rates are far better than in many years so if you are considering remodeling etc. this may be a good option.

2) We accept phone orders with the above.

3) We have special financing resources that are specifically tailored for renewable energy systems. Please inquire about this option.

4) You can also buy a smaller system that can be plugged into your utility outlet, if you want to participate in renewable energy but can't afford a larger system.

5) You can build your system one piece at a time. We will design a system that can be built sequentially, one module or component at a time, spreading out your investment.
